High quality pure copper powder.
Copper is a malleable and tough reddish colored metal. It is an excellent thermal and electrical conductor and has good corrosion resistance. It is found in sulfide ores and as carbonate, arsenide and chloride (the amount in the Earth's crust is 50 ppm). Metal extraction is produced by boiling the ore to obtain the oxide, followed by reduction and purification by electrolysis. This element is inert to non-oxidizing acids but reacts to oxidizing agents. It changes in the air, giving this characteristic green patina color of carbonate. Heated to red copper combines with oxygen to produce CuO and Cu2O at elevated temperatures.
The electrical conductivity of pure copper is second only to that of silver, hence its main application in the electrical industry. Copper is also the basis of many important alloys (eg brass, bronze and aluminum bronze) and has always been used for minting coins, as are silver and gold, but copper is more common and less valuable. It is one of the first metals with which humans ever worked, and copper mines are believed to have existed for more than 5,000 years.
Applications
Used for cold casting, with casting resin, epoxy (preferred), polyester or polyurethane. Depending on the type of part to be produced, incorporate an average of 50% to 100% by volume of copper powder into the resin. Apply a layer of the mixture to the mold and let it harden. Then fill with an unfilled resin to reduce costs.
After demoulding, polish the part so that it looks like metal. The higher the copper powder content, the better the result.
Also used, mixed with an epoxy resin, as an anti-fouling and anti-fouling coating:
The hull must be carefully prepared, stripped of old paint and conventional antifouling.
Roughen orbital, grit 80 to 120 and remove dust.
Mix resin / hardener by carefully respecting the dosage (by weight). Add the copper powder at a rate of 2 kg copper per liter of resin. Only prepare the amount that can be applied within 20/30 minutes. Due to its large mass, the copper powder will tend to fall to the bottom of the container, it is important to stir the mixture regularly to ensure homogeneity during application.
If several layers are required, they should be applied on the same day as much as possible. Wait for the "bad luck" of the previous coat before applying a new one.
The boat can go back into the water after 3 to 6 days (depending on the ambient temperature). Before launch, it is necessary to practice light surface erosion to make the copper powder brighter. This sanding is done with a Scotch Brite pad or water-based abrasive with grit 400. Repeat the operation once a year.
