Strontium aluminate doped with Europium and Dysprosium for long lasting intensive green glow. Because the product is harmless, it is safe to work with. The fabric is charged by artificial or sunlight, after which it provides light for +- 10 hours.
Strontium aluminates are inorganic compounds that refer to various SrO•Al2O3 compounds. These are essentially SrAl2O4, strontium aluminate stricto sensu (monoclinic), Sr4Al2O73, SrAl4O7 (monoclinic), Sr3Al2O6 (cubic), SrAl12O19 (hexagonal), Sr4Al14O25 (orthorhombic). They can be produced by heating a mixture of strontium oxide (SrO) and alumina (aluminium(III) oxide, Al2O3)3 to about 700 to 900°C. Strontium aluminates are mainly used in hydraulic cements, photoluminescent or thermoluminescent pigments and in matrices for lasers.
Strontium aluminate is used as a cement ingredient, as a laser material, and as a luminescent pigment for photoluminescence and long luminescence thermoluminescence. For phosphorus applications, SrAl2O4 is combined with the rare earth elements europium and dysprosium. Once activated, it glows green (at 520nm) for up to 10 hours. These properties were discovered in 1996.
