What is Zinc Nitrate?
Zinc nitrate [Zn(NO3)2] is the zinc salt of nitric acid.
Zinc nitrate is a colorless oxidizing solid. It decomposes on heating, forming nitrogen oxides and zinc oxide and previously liberating water of crystallization above 105 °C.
Various salts of zinc nitrate with different amounts of water of crystallization are known. The best known contains six equivalents of water (hexahydrate), but hydrates with two, four or nine water molecules are also known.
What is Zinc Nitrate?
Zinc nitrate is used as a catalyst in anti-crease fabrics, as part of latex coagulation baths, in electroplating and in the dyeing of acetate fibers.
It is used as a bleach and mordant, as well as for the production of other zinc compounds.
