What is Thiourea?
Thiocarbamide or thiourea is the sulfur derivative of urea or carbamide.
Thiourea is an organosulfur compound with the formula SC(NH2)2. It is structurally similar to urea except that the oxygen atom has been replaced with a sulfur atom, but the properties of urea and thiourea are significantly different. "Thioureas" refer to a broad class of compounds having the general structure (R1R2N)(R3R4N)C=S. Thioureaes are linked to thioamides, for example RC(S)NR2.
What is Thiourea used for?
Thiocarbamide is a reagent widely used in organic synthesis, especially as a precursor of heterocycles. It is mainly used for the textile industry. Its derivatives are called "thiocarbamides" or "thioureas".
